Powerful and Full of Glory

September 2015

Dear Sister,

The visiting teaching message this month is short. The Divine Attributes of Jesus Christ emphasized this month are ‘Powerful and Full of Glory.’ It talks about how Christ’s power is on us when we make covenants with Him. General Relief Society President, Linda K. Burton, said “Covenant keeping strengthens, empowers, and protects.” Expanding on her words Nephi said, “I, Nephi, beheld the power of the Lamb of God, that it descended … upon the covenant people of the Lord … And they were armed with righteousness and with the power of God in great glory.”

The visiting teaching message relays the Bible story of Jesus Christ bringing Lazarus forth from the tomb. It implies that Jesus Christ had great faith and doubted nothing which gave him the power to perform miracles and even raise the dead. He had great compassion for Martha and Mary and was also was filled with the power of God.

The scriptures say that Jesus arrived at Martha and Mary’s home after Lazarus had been in the grave for four days. They went to Lazarus’ tomb, and Jesus commanded that the stone covering the entrance be taken away. Jesus said to Martha, “Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?” He then prayed to God the Father and “cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes.”

The visiting teaching message says, “The Savior uses His power to redeem and empower us. Our faith in Him will increase as we remember that He is full of power and glory.”

Seeing miracles (the glory of God) depends on our belief. If we truly believe a miracle will happen and have faith, it will happen. The message asks us to think about how the power of God arms us with power and great glory. To me, I believe the power of God is real and the more I believe in it the more His power is extended to me in the form of my faith.

It seems too simple, that my belief/faith endows me with God’s power. But Nephi saw the righteous armed with the power of God. I honestly ask myself, Can I, really, have the power of God? Do the righteous, really, get armed with the power of God? The only way to find out is to be righteous and believe Nephi’s words. As we’re righteous and believe the prophet’s words our faith increases and God’s power is in us. What peace, to know that as we believe the scriptures and what the prophet’s say and as we follow their counsel God will protect us with His power. Let us not worry but believe.

We love you,
Jade and Taleen
