Created in the Image of God

March 2016

Dear Sister,

This month’s Visiting Teaching message is called “Created in the Image of God.” “And God said, Let us make man in our own image, after our likeness … So God created man in his own Image. In the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”

A few months ago it hit me. I was sitting at my desk in my office thinking about God when I realized He loved me. Knowing that Jesus Christ loved me was one thing but knowing that God loved me took it to another level. Almighty God – maker of the universe and the planets – is so great. He is all knowing and all powerful and I’m just a puny little human being on earth…why would He care about me, I’m so small? I thought. But I felt a warm swelling in my heart and I knew – without any doubt – that He loved me very much.

I think about how our babies look like us; they are human beings. Then I think about how we are God’s children and how of course we would look like him. Somehow, knowing I’m like Heavenly Father elevates my thinking to being divine and the daughter of a king. In some way I feel humble to consider that I’m royal, and I feel like treating myself better and with respect.

The Visiting Teaching message talks about the brother of Jared and how he melted out of a rock sixteen small stones. Then he prayed that God would touch each stone so they would shine and they wouldn’t be in darkness. Then the veil was lifted from his eyes and he saw the Lord’s finger and it was the finger of a man.

I don’t know why, but whenever I’ve heard that story I’ve imagined a giant finger. But it wasn’t giant. It was a finger like yours and mine. God has a body of flesh and bones and is just like us. He’s not a big giant person but the same size as us. We are divine and like him; I believe that with all my heart.

God is a glorified and perfect man. He is our Heavenly Father and every human being – including you and me – is created in his image. I’m thankful to be able to reflect on how I’m like God and I hope you’ll take the time to reflect on that, too. I testify of its truth and hope you know the truth, too.

We love you,
Jade and Taleen
