A common phrase is “Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” and many of the rich read those words and think, “I’m not poor so I guess I’m not going to heaven” and they shrug off religion. But I say that the rich need Jesus, too.
Jesus didn’t say blessed are the ‘poor’ but the ‘poor in spirit’ and the word ‘poor’ has nothing to do with money but the condition of the heart. (James 2:5; D&C 56:18) What if the phrase said: “Blessed are the poor in spirit (who have humble, sincere faith): for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
Everyone needs Jesus.
